Knowing the room was clear, I settled down to sleep. I was woken by some loud sounds in my room at about 1am. It was so loud it sounded like a large animal was inside, like a cat or something. I just was very still, lit my torch and looked around.
The noise stopped.
I turned off my torch and didn't move, and the noises began again. I flicked the torch back on and saw the curtain moving, and creasing as if something was holding onto the other side.
I watched as a rat CLIMBED down the curtain and jumped onto my (luckily closed) suitcase. It had squeezed through the vent, clung onto the curtain and practically abseiled down.
It was huge...
I got my phone and asked if Sam could come and relieve me as I wasn't likely to sleep straight away knowing the rodent was sharing my room. Sam came in and searched everywhere but couldn't find it, he said they are extremely clever and hide well. Great.
I had no choice but to stick my headphones in and try not to hear its' movement, violently tuck my mosquito net around the mattress extra tight to seal me in my safe little cave, and accept that this was sleepover round two... with a rat this time.
love it!! I have heard that if they nibble your toes they are so gentle it keeps you asleep while they have their 'tea'.
ReplyDeleteHahaha!! This is just like the stories you used to write as a little girl and now you're living them for real!
